Who we are
Tano translates to 'ground' in Motuan, the language of Renee’s maternal Bubu (grandmother)
Pottery-making has been practiced along the coastal region of Papua New Guinea for centuries. Tano ceramics was created to honour these deep historic roots of ceramic manufacturing by Renee’s ancestors, Kerema-Hisiu peoples of Papua New Guinea.
Respecting the nature of small batch makes, all ceramic pieces have been made by hand and intentionally adorned with markings, patterns, and colours influenced by her ples (village/land) and heritage.
Each piece pays respect to the generations of knowledge, skill, love, and commitment to pottery making of her ancestors.
Renee is a Zenadth Kes (Torres Strait Islander), Daru and Kerema-Hisiu woman living and making on Wurundjeri country.
